Micro Wedding Photography | Sophie & Dan
This time last year we hadn’t even heard of the term ‘micro wedding’. And it’s now probably one of the most used phrases within the wedding industry! The great thing about couples (and wedding suppliers) is that we’re so adaptable. And we adapt with huge smiles on our faces! COVID wedding restrictions that at first seemed to stifle plans and cause additional worry for couples, have led to them planning more intimate, cosy days with no less joy and definitely no restriction on happiness!
Sophie and Dan had originally planned a large wedding in a rustic Yorkshire wedding barn. Then, COVID rules meant they had to pull their day forward by two weeks and, on top of that, slash their original 110 person guest-list to just 13 of their closest friends and family. However they were determined that a smaller guest-list did not mean holding back on the day they were dreaming of.
The biggest thing throughout their wedding planning journey had been to make sure that every detail was ‘them’ and reflected their personalities. From their black lab, Guinness, spending the wedding day with them (he was absolutely spoiled rotten by everyone there!) to wedding wellies, personalised cocktails and a “cigar and whiskey” moment for the gents… (and some of the ladies!), their day was definitely full of personal touches!
They’d opted for some slight changes to how they’d originally planned to use The Normans Wedding Venue – making use of the smaller ceremony space for their reception as well. The room looked amazing. Strings of fairy lights lit up the stone walls, huge candle jars decorated the floor space whilst the tables were covered in rich green foliage. It was as though they were always meant to use that space! The horseshoe arrangement of the tables gave a lovely, intimate feel to the emotional speeches and meant that everyone could chat away easily over dinner. A sense of togetherness that we all needed and had been craving throughout 2020!
Sophie, Dan, Guinness and I nipped away from the reception for their couple’s (and dog!) portraits. Clutching an umbrella (and wearing those wedding wellies) to ward off the light rain I snapped away whilst Sophie and Dan took a moment to themselves. They were on cloud 9!
Planning a micro wedding
Micro weddings are no longer just a “COVID thing”. They’re intimate, fun filled days where you are surrounded by the people that bring you the most joy and happiness. More and more couples are opting to celebrate with just a handful of loved ones and are looking forward to planning a micro wedding or elopement.
If you’re thinking about a micro wedding then I’d love to chat to you about your photography. Please get in touch. For now, here are some of my favourites from Sophie and Dan’s day.
